Winner of the 2022 Joe Burke Journalism Fund for Social Justice Reporting

I’m so excited to announce that I’ve won the 2022 Joe Burke Journalism Fund for Social Justice Reporting with the West End Phoenix! (Pause while I pinch myself.)

My project will be a series of profiles of Torontonians who have spent time in a psychiatric hospital and the challenges they face post-discharge. I will explore their varied realities as they find their way to housing, employment and community in an unaffordable city, and in a system where inequity is built in. The first instalment will come out on October 15th in the Youth Issue,

This initiative is supported by friends in the memory of Joe Burke, the late social justice advocate and lawyer.

Stay tuned for more!
